FAQ

Where do you live and what do you do?
My husband Kevin and I live in sunny California. My husband's family owns restaurants, and so he runs one of the stores! {Which translates into lots of free food for us, haha!}. I am currently in grad school studying counseling. This is a bit of a career change for me, as I spent 7 years working in the international non-profit world. I worked for the National Center for Refugee and Immigrant Children, Invisible Children and Empowering Lives International. This took me all over the world speaking and writing curriculum to help educate people on current international issues. In 2013, Kevin and I lived in Nepal doing consulting work for an aftercare home that housed girls rescued out of sex-trafficking, It was there that I made the decision to switch careers and go into counseling.

What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Canon 5D Mark 2. I love this camera!

What do you use to edit your pictures? They are so colorful!
This is actually the question I receive most often. I use Lightroom to edit all my pictures, and I'd totally recommend it! I also use the VSCO film packs. I love them! My suggestion is to play around with the presets and figure out what style is best suited to you! I generally expirement with the exposure, vibrancy, blackness, and occasionally the sharpness.

Do you do weddings or portraits?
Yes I do. I have a photography business on the side, and would be so honored to capture your special moments. Feel free to check out my business, Hope Photographie. If you are having a destination wedding, we offer significant discounts if you are able to pay for our transportation:)

Do you sell your travel photos?
Yes I do. If you are interested in one of my images, just let me know!

You travel so often…how do you find the money for it?
Yes, we do love to travel and have been blessed with some incredible experiences in our life. I've actually written an entire travel series on "How to Pay for Travel" where you will find all my tips for traveling on a budget! You can see the series here.

What is your favorite destination you've traveled to?
Oh goodness, this is a tough one! Kevin and I have been to over 40 countries, so it's almost impossible to pick. However, I have written a few posts on my favorite cities in the world! {My favorite "small" cities in the world} and {My favorite "Big" cities in the world}

You've mentioned you have Lupus…does it still affect you?
Yes, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Lupus in 2009. It has been a painful journey of healing, but currently I am healthier than I have been in years thanks to the aid of my holistic doctor who helped me change my diet! I have been gluten and dairy free for 3+ years, and so much of my inflammation has decreased! I am so grateful for good health! To read more about my journey with Lupus see Part 1 and Part 2.

  1. I was thinking about getting Lightroom CS5 for $100 (as an add on to my camera purchase). Now I wish I did!
