love is deeper still.

Kevin and I leave for Asia on April 1st, and that fact alone is blowing my mind.
It has seemed exotic, adventurous, and a tad bit romantic to think that we are moving together as a young couple to a foreign country to do something good and bold and kind.
 Together.

But tonight.
tonight the sobering fact of evil faced us head on, and I wept.
my soul spilled tears,
deep,
and mostly heavy.
the weight of something unbelievably evil.

nefarious, in fact.

my good friend Isaac, who works in an aftercare home for girls rescued out of sex-trafficking in Cambodia, recommended that we watch the documentary called "Nefarious" in an attempt to help prepare ourselves for the work we will be doing in Nepal.

"prepare"might not be the most useful adjective to describe the effect this film had on me.
maybe more liked "wrecked".
yes, it wrecked me.

kevin and nate and i just sat still when the movie ended.
in the dark. as the credits rolled.

my mind a screen, replaying the image of hell.

but for as deeply evil as the most heinous act in the film,
what struck me raw,
to the core,

was that's Abba's LOVE was the hero.

Corrie Ten Boom said,

"There is no pit so deep, that God's love is not deeper still.”

when all that was perverted and abused and twisted and dark transpired,
it was only,

only,

the deep agape,

the love without condition or any condemnation,

that saved these women.

that shone LIGHT.

every women who testified of such torture,
ended their story full of redemption in a Savior that loved them with an
overflowing,
unconditional
stream of agape.

and I fell at HIS feet as
Kevin and Nate and I
all prayed,
thanking him for the bright lights of His love,
that can bring our hearts out of despair in a way that no drug or 10 step process ever could.

the note of Christ's LOVE is where we landed.
yes there is evil, but that is NOT the end.
evil does not win.

God wins.
love wins.

I do not know how our time in Asia will go.
I am not sure exactly what we will be doing.
I have no idea how my feeble self will withstand the tales of torture.

But one thing I know is this,
my God,
my Redeemer,
He is LOVE.

and where there is LOVE,
there is no fear.

so i want to be brave with my life,
and carry HIS love with me as we move and minister and live
in Asia.

thank you all for praying and standing with us as we prepare.
we are humbled.

and please please please watch the film Nefarious.
you can see the trailer here.

{and don't say i didn't warn you. it will wreck you.}

but in bravery,
be ever wrecked for the kingdom,
swimming in His love.

love Katie

  2. Another great post Katie. What organization will you be working with in Nepal? I'm in the process of gathering a list of organizations fighting against human trafficking and would love to add more to the list. I was just talking to a friend yesterday about borrowing one of her Nearious movies and then the there is a free viewing of the newest one here next month that I want to go to. The plight of young girls in Moldova has captured my heart lately. I would love for the opportunity to go out there and work with them, in the meantime, I'm looking forward to reading about all the stuff you guys do in Nepal!

  3. I love your heart for these women, Katie. God's love for them will be expressed through your actions and words to them in Nepal. I wish with all my heart that my husband and I were at a place in life where we could do something like this, saving the world, one soul at a time. Thankfully, God works wherever we are so I know this season of our lives are not wasted. I'll be praying for you and I look forward to hearing what the Lord does in your lives and through your lives.

  4. Girl. One thing God keeps revealing to me over and over again is that He called Josh and me to Moose Factory, because He saw Josh and I fit to love these people. Even when I don't see myself fit or think I am capable of anything good, I'm reminded that God disagrees with me. It makes me so excited for y'all and though you don't know exactly what you'll be doing, I KNOW you will be doing amazing things, some even that you'll never see the fruit for on this side of Heaven. I am so full of hope for y'all and your time in Nepal and the great things God has planned. He's the ultimate planner. Stopping right now to lift y'all up!

  7. Wow, that quote from Corrie Ten Boom is beautiful and oh, so true. And definitely a nice reminder for me! Especially in times of worrying and discouragement--times where I find myself going all too often (especially worrying). So thank you for encouraging me today!

And oh my goodness, you're going to Nepal! That sounds like such an amazing adventure and I know (even though I've just started reading your blog) that you're going to do some great things there. Definitely praying for you!!

    And yes, LOVE WINS. :)

  9. I have been wanting to see that movie (Nefarious) but have yet to do so. I saw the trailer several times before it came out. It is good that you weep and mourn for the people who are being oppressed and that you long to help. it is amazing that you will be able to do so, though it will be very difficult. Jesus wins in the end.

  15. Great post Katie. Being Dutch I, of course, LOVE Corrie!!

My life hasn't always been easy... I have wanted to check out several times but hung on by the Grace of God. What helped me was to remind myself over and over again that I was fighting a fight of which the outcome was clear and already decided. Many wars are fought but at least I was fighting a war I knew I would win. There is no way that God would always let me hurt. God would help me get passed all the horrors in my life. And though it was hard work, for many years, I can finally say I am in a better place. There is hope for the hopeless! Always!

  16. I have been so very absent from the blog world lately and truth be told, I've missed your light in my life. After reading this and catching up on where you and your hubby are at, I want you to know how very, very hard I'll be praying for you and each of the people you come into contact with. I'm attending International Justice Mission's Global PRayer Gathering the first weekend in April and lifting up some of the same souls you are committing yourself to: the oppressed, the enslaved, the abused. You are such a kindred spirit (and friend) and I know our Savior is going to be actively working through you to make miracles happen.

So much love to you <3
